The patient’s right leg had been amputated as an infant. Physical examination revealed deformity of right skull with tumefaction of the ear lobe and retroauricular area, with marked mastoid hyperesthesia. The tympanic membrane could not be seen due to oedema of the external auditory canal. Computed tomography was performed (Fig. 2), revealing severe dysplastic changes (compatible with chondromatosis) in right temporal and sphenoid bones, with involvement and occupation of tympanic cavity. Because of the history of chondromatosis and the tomography results, scintigraphy and magnetic resonance were requested (Fig. 3). Results showed active lesions and deformity (probably from osteochondroma) in the stage of becoming malignant, located in

Enchondroma of the Skull Base in a Case of Ollier’s Syndrome
Ollier’s syndrome, a variant of multiple enchondromatosis, is a rare disease with an estimated prevalence of 1/100,000, characterized by multiple enchondromas, asymmetrically involving small bones of the hands and feet, especially the proximal phalanges. Intracranial enchondromas, such as those arising from the skull base are extremely rare. Herein, we report a 25-year-old female, known case of...

In contrast to solitary enchondroma, patients with multiple enchondromatosis of bone (Ollier's disease) get affected in childhood by bone swelling and growth retardation. In adults, the main problem is the risk of malign transformation up to 40%.Pain, increasing local tumor and thinning of the corticalis are the typical clinical and radiological signs of transformation to a low grade chondrosarc...

When there are multiple enchondromas, the term enchondromatosis is applied. There are 7 subtypes of enchondromatosis; the most common subtypes are Ollier disease and Maffucci syndrome which are distinguished by the presentation ...
